Radar detected a massive and dangerous route leak

Qrator Radar detected a massive and dangerous route leak (Date: 16.05.2017, time 08:48:00 UTC - 09:06:00 UTC) that occurred in Imperva Incapsula network (AS19551).

Traffic from more than 1500 networks was incorrectly redirected between Telia (AS1299) and Rostelecom (AS12389), resulting in suboptimal routes and higher latency for those ISPs affected. For more than 18 minutes, before Incapsula’s technicians fixed the issue.

This incident affected different companies in various industries, including core Internet networks, such as DTAG (AS3320). Additional statistics: 22% of prefixes were of U.S. origin, 16% France, 15% Iran, 5% Great Britain and 4.7% Thailand.

Qrator Radar technicians warn: network anomalies that happen beyond your network borders can have a significant impact on your services, at the moment only proactive monitoring is a viable approach for detecting and fixing these network anomalies.
